This is is review for the Farmer’s Boulevard release „Red Carpet“. You might already know it, as they released it already in 2006, but still, if you haven’t it’s worth a look. Farmer’s Blvd is one of the older german hardcore bands, doing their thing since 1997 and presenting their third fullength on their own Label PCS Records.
You may like it or not, but Leipzigs Farmer’s Blvd play some hardcore that seems to be geared to the late 90ies hardcore: sometimes midtempo, sometimes really fast and always pissed enough to make this a pretty respectable listen. Over all the music goes straight to the point but sometimes they have this little „experimental“ thing going on... It works very well most of the times! For me personally listening to this record is like a deja vu: At times Farmer’s Blvd’s style reminds me of my very first hardcore shows in my hometown’s local youthcenter. Me being a 14 year old kid, standing on the side, watching the big guys, jumping and screaming like crazy. The smell of their sweat, piss, beer and smoke is in my nose again when I put „Red carpet“ in the player. That's hardcore magic!
Nevertheless Farmer’s Bldv proves that they’re not at all a mindless partyband: The lyrics are all very thoughtfull, political and explicitly antifascist. Some lyrics though are less innovative and ingenious than others: The last song „Hardcore is fuckin’ dead“ is an example for that. Not that I don’t approve of it but we’ve heard this all to often. Much more interesting is „Don’t forget Africa“ a song about capitalistic media selling out people’s suffering in the third world. We want more of that!
The CD comes along in a really nice digipak, with some artwork that does a cool job in combining photography and drawing elements. That’s for all you artwork –ethusiasts out there!
Over all as I said in the beginning, a records worth a look if you don’t own it already. Watch out for the tourdates as Farmer's Blvd promise to be a hell of a liveband. Check their homepage www.farmers-boulevard.de for more info and tourdates!
